How many of you feel like this when trying to talk about PTSD and trying to get support from family?

I've had the symptoms of PTSD since 1988 and diagnosed in +-2007. I've learned a lot since then. My body/mind craves adrenaline, and doing daredevil and stupid things mainly in my past helped. I'm scheduled for therapy beginning late February 2016. That got set up after I called the cops, said I'd put a round into my wife's head, if they didn't respond. My ex daughter In law repeatedly threatened to kill my family and her son (whom we have custody of). I thought I saw her car slowly pass our house and that caused flashbacks. When I was in, slow or fast moving vehicles passing a target, were a threat. I snapped and attacked the vehicle with my fists and body. The car looked exactly like my ex daughter in laws. I called the cops and, because they'd refused to respond in the past, said I'd kill my wife unless they responded. 10 units arrived shortly. My goal had been to get police on scene in case my ex daughter in law attacked. Long story short I got to spend a few days in the local looney bin since I was ballsy enough to hold 10 cops off with a firing stance in the dark. I was worried about my family and figured I'd draw their fire and my family would've safe.
Everyone in my family is either afraid to talk about the incident or doesn't see the illness and therefore I'm just a whining asshole who gets really angry and is an idiot. According to them, the bad times are over so get over it.
Who else is dealing with this bullshit?

CPO Joseph Grant, based on your scenario brother I'd say you are lucky to be breathing, that the responding Law Enforcement Officers responded with restraint. Taking an offensive stance in the dark could be perceived as a threat and a target. You've taken a responsible and courageous step by identifying a problem and seeking help!
I encourage you to share the phone number to Military One Source with all your family members http://www.militaryonesource.mil/

Yeah, CSM Michael J. Uhlig ,they did. Sad thing is, with the flashback I didn't care if I lived or died. I figured I was already dead. I thanked most after wards and cussed one to high heaven for being one who wouldn't respond when we saw signs of being stalked.

I recommend calling [login to see] CPO Joseph Grant, and get the communication started while you are waiting for the appointment in February. You are a survivor brother, need to keep you that way.

Chief, I do some dumb stuff to get a "rush" to "feel" alive. I really do. But I know when I need help. My family tries to help, and my mother knows PTSD very well with my father suffering from it. But like everyone else so far, I'd recommend you get help...NOW. The hell with the family, their opinions, or their feelings. All of that won't matter if something happens to you. Help yourself and help them later. You NEED you, just like they NEED you.

A small piece of advice, find some help before February 2016. Take a step back for a moment and envision the scenario as if it were someone else. I would hope you see what I see that the individual needs help now. Your motive appears good but the execution is a big red flag that you need to get some help. I am not criticizing, only wanting a fellow vet to get the help he needs.

I'm working on it but it's a small town with one mental health center equipped. My meds have been adjusted and I've done my 5 days coloring to instructions in the local looney bin. I'm on a cancellation list.

CPO Joseph Grant - I hope you can get in soon. I found keeping busy helps to distract myself when things get rough.
