I hadn't even conceived of the possibility. That would be a cool Idea for Sea Service Veteran like myself. Although don't know what I would patrol. The Nearest body of water is Tomahawk Creek and it is the big or deep. I have been known to help look for Bodies in Tomahawk Creek after very strong rains here.

I'm not, but I was first introduced to them about 10 years ago or so. Our Glock program was Military/LEO only (Basically Glock said if you had "any creds" you were good). Someone showed me their Coast Guard Auxiliary ID (he didn't claim to be military, just wanted to buy the gun).

I ended up looking up the program. It's kind of cool.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a part of the Coast Guard. However, they are only there to support the Coast Guards boater safety mission. They mostly go around and check your life jackets, flares, and offer tows to help the small boat stations. I've heard stories of them getting in the way by overstepping their role, and authority.

By the way. The Coast Guard Auxiliary doesn't actually get paid. The Coast Guard will only pay for their fuel used. Everything else is out of pocket.

Seems interesting, but how would this play with someone who's already retired from the active military or someone with a VA rating who's disabled? I know a few folks who'd like to continue to serve.

I am AD Coast Guard an have had great experience working along side the USCG aux. At my last station we had a great auxiliary that helped out all the time. One retired couple stood our communication watch one day every week and would train our new e-2 and E-3. They had been doing this for over a decade and were more knowledgeable than most. The aux would always volunteer for our Christmas party and buy gifts for the lower ranked enlisted children. I can't give enough praise to the USCG Auxiliary!

I'm a member of the Auxiliary. I don't do much with them currently because I am a Navy Reservist. However when I am Retired in the next few months. I plan to become very active, so I can stay in service to my country in one way or another.

I was part of the USCGA for 2 years. In my experience, a lot of the "flotillas" are disorganized. One example is I never received my ID card after reminding them several times.

I've looked into going with them quite extensively...I'm total perm disabled, the rules about what I can volunteer with, and how, are pretty strict...I'd really be most obliged if anyone here might be able to chat with me about HR and recruiting stuff, there's some stuff I'd really be most eager to ask about, whenever convenient, many thanks....

I was in the Coast Guard from 1987 until 02. I was a Bm1. Got forced out do to broke back and chronic kidney failure.
