I wasn't really tracking that this was an issue, until a fellow veteran pointed out, on Facebook, and was all butthurt about it.
I never equated saying HMD as being disrespectful...or "have a good Memorial Day"
would it be more appropriate for me to go down a bottle of whiskey and contemplate suicide, because is such a depressing day???

MAJ Jim Steven, I am surprised at the number of people who don't know that we honor our died veterans on Memorial Day.

I get it....it is kinda dumb to say "happy" in reference to a day honoring those who died. Its not the best choice of words - but I think that also comes from the fact that we celebrate it by spending time with family THAT MAY NOT HAVE SERVED, grilling and hanging out on the water (its a spring holiday, the kids are getting out of school, etc). I never saw it as bad intentions, just not marketed as well as could be....

Those three words have never been uttered from these lips in that order. I usually say, Have a Safe Memorial Day. I do get snarky from time to time and throw out "Enjoy your freedom someone else paid for" in San Francisco or Berkeley (there's a really good place there for baklava and chai).
