I'm in both VFW and the Legion, I've been a VFW Commander for several years and Adjutant. I find that Legion Membership is much more expensive than my VFW membership was, about 20 years ago I became a VFW Lifemember for about $340.00-The Legion charges over $800.00 and I'm 62 now or I can pay $35 a year until they raise the dues. Another funny thing about the Legion is you start getting dues notices in June and your membership isn't up until December!!

PO3 Tiffany Meyers - Generally the VFW requires you ho have served overseas in a war zone-there are other eligible veterans such as if you served in Korea for I believe at least 60 continuous days, if you look on the VFW web site it will give you all the particulars as to who is eligible for membership.

Jealous of you right now, I loved my two weeks in Hawaii.

PO3 Tiffany Meyers - That is the biggest difference between the American Legion and the VFW. For membership into the American Legion you have only got to have one federal day of service during the period of conflict.

I'm on my sixth term as Commander of American Legion, Post 208, Millis, MA Our post was established in 1920 and in the History of the Post I've served more terms than anyone as Commander. The next closest is one that served three terms. I have also in the past served as 1st Vice Commander, 2nd Vice Commander, adjutant and Post service officer. I'm also a member of AMVETS, Post 495, in Millis, MA Most of our current Post 208 Officers are Veteran's of the Viet Nam or the Persian Gulf War. Many of the Korean war and WWII Vets are still active in the Post some serving on the post Executive Board and others on Committees or appointed positions. We do own our own post building and both the Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts meet there both of which We help. We also hold a coffee every Thursday morning all year for anyone that is a veteran, You don't even have to be a Legion Member just a Veteran of the Armed Forces. That coffee is just social to allow any veteran to get together with other vets. We are always looking for new members and I'm happy to say We have added some. Its a great bunch of guys at our post !

On both memorial Day and veteran's day our post serves a free breakfast to anyone that is a veteran of the US Armed Forces. In this picture are some of our members enjoying that breakfast. of course the post has regular social events for Legion members during the year. Our post also provides space for Military order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 1885, Millis, MA to meet within our Post building.
