Had a really great First Sergeant and Commander who not only provided a letter of commendation, but took me off the guard roster so others could win. Made my day!! I always got stuck on the weekends. The rosters were rebooted and "C" was always on top of the new list...we had so many duties you barely had a free weekend. Still have my letter! Once I got the hang of it, I made supernumerary many times. They didn't have the four-time rule that you mentioned, but I got many tours of guard duty off for acing guard mount and being selected supernumerary. When I was a PFC, a SP4 who knew his way around a guard mount mentored me and taught me what I needed to know to follow in his footsteps. Those were good times. From the basement stairwell up I walked after having done the same thing.

It came down to the questions and they seemed to go on forever...
I will never remember the last question that was asked, but I remember hearing those words
"SPC Bailey, you are the Super Numerary...everyone else Right Face Forward March"

They marched everyone through the rain to the Guard Barracks and SPC Clarke's boots were never the same afterwards.

I made the E-5 list that month and we had a policy that only E-4 and below were allowed to compete.... so I never made it again. I actually made Super-Supernumerary once. What is that you ask? The guard roster was messed up. There were 2 extra on it. As the first supernumerary I was dismissed from guard duty honorably. I got to take the day off and patrol the bars in Frankfurt.
Back at Fort Lewis in my unit. E-4s pulled guard duty and E-3 and below pulled KP. The guys in my platoon would take bets on my chances of making Supernumerary. I think I only missed one out 5. STRAC!
