Is there a specific situation during your career that truly tested your mental toughness?

Sleep deprived and exhausted already, then low crawling through a muddy ditch (without a ruck this time) half an hour before sunset, then rolling around in the loam (alternating front leaning rest and flutter kick position) and otherwise getting smoked until sunset, then finally heading out for four hours of solo "day-into-night" land nav. Cold, wet, filthy, and miserable--I felt pretty sorry for myself as I broke brush dead-reckoning in the dark with a sputtering L-shape flashlight. I had to change my focus and re-percieve my reality to get through it.

I work for a government agency as a civilian........very mentally strong.....or there is something very mentally wrong with me. :P

Yes when I was given a week to write a DFAS wide SOP on disaster preparedness and relief. It distributes $900,000,000,000 a year. I had to understand the forest before addressing the trees.

In Marine Infantry, you are pushed to and past a lot of mental barriers. You are also shown through this that you have more " mental " toughness then you might have thought. But there are still times when every warrior has to dig deep inside and work past challages. It's part of the Job. Over coming fear of heights, or climbing cliffs, racing head long into the darkest nights on a speeding craft. It builds mental toughness.
