At least people are making some effort to honor service people dead or alive. Most people don't actually know what most holidays were created to honor. I personally think about my father , uncles, and fallen buddies on both days, and throughout the year. I have found that a lot of civilians (not all), know absolutely nothing about the military. The fact that someone would take time out of their day to thank me for my service is an important step in the right direction. Even if it's only a token show of gratitude. As military members, we carry the legacy of all those who came before us and it is our duty to honor those men and women.

We could try and correct civilians until we're blue in the face. The only thing we'll accomplish is less people thanking us for our service.

What we should be doing is every time someone thanks you for your service, you should give your thanks to someone who did make the ultimate sacrifice.
