Not a lot. At least people are making some effort to honor service people dead or alive. Most people don't actually know what most holidays were created to honor.

Not nearly as much as people wishing me a "Happy Memorial Day." The day is about remembrance and not celebration. Thankfully I have the day off work so I can avoid 99% of people.

MCPO Katrina Hutcherson It does not bother me even though they are very different days. I personally think about my father , uncles, and fallen buddies on both days, and throughout the year. I have found that a lot of civilians (not all), know absolutely nothing about the military.

It bothers me, MCPO Katrina Hutcherson, but that bother is taken and put to work. I participate in Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades. I support military-themed events on a volunteer basis. As Sgt Private RallyPoint Member has pointed out, few still recognize the difference between the two days. No matter. One never knows when you will be the one to light a candle when the world is dark around you. Be there. Light the candle.

saying "Happy Memorial Day" doesn't bother me that much, its said with good intentions.
What I am finding annoying is events where the National Anthem is played, and people aren't removing hats, hand on heart, or are still talking....

It really doesn't. The fact that someone would take time out of their day to thank me for my service is an important step in the right direction. Even if it's only a token show of gratitude. As military members, we carry the legacy of all those who came before us and it is our duty to honor those men and women.

We could try and correct civilians until we're blue in the face. The only thing we'll accomplish is less people thanking us for our service.

What we should be doing is every time someone thanks you for your service, you should give your thanks to someone who did make the ultimate sacrifice.
