His impact was pretty big, and included crossing alot of boundaries between music genres. As far as favorite song...I would have to say the whole Purple Rain album.

SFC (Join to see) - I remember first hearing that album (on vinyl). I was in the Marine Corps and my roommate and I had very different tastes in music. I was into stuff like AC/DC & Iron Maiden and he was into Billy Ocean and stuff like that. We didn't really argue about music, but we pretty much just tolerated each others tastes. He put Purple Rain on the turntable and after a few minutes I was like "hey, who is that? I like that!"
