How often do Veterans/Transitioning military post their resumes to Job Search websites, and how often are they contacted for opportunities?

I only post when I am actually applying for something. However, since I am in the civil service, it works a bit differently. There is an option to make the resume viewable, but I never heard of someone being selected like that. I usually make the list when I apply. Interviews are hit or miss depending on the selecting official. I have a pretty good success rate though.

I have not been in the job market for a few months. But, when I was, I posted my resume on Indeed and Monster and have actually been contacted a few times. I would say at 1-2 times a month and I am not actively searching or haven't updated my resume since this past April. Now, the follow on question might be related to if those folks contacting me were anything close to the industry I am looking for. Most times they aren't.

I saw a statistic on LinkedIn of a 3% effectiveness rate of applying for a job on line. That number can increase if you research the job/company and linkup/connect with individuals that work for that company.

My opinion is to use RallyPoint - LinkedIn and other networking opportunities to meet folks in your desired industry or company. Getting someone to forward your resume to the hiring manager helps get contacted and a possible interview.

I believe the number of jobs that are filled from job sites is about 10 percent. I would be surprised if the job search websites where you post your resume are higher (although I know people who have been successful). Most jobs advertised on job sites are to build a pool of candidates for the most often needed jobs at a company, but they most often fill the job through other means.

Not much because there is always some with better qualification then them who always gets the job. Not a lot of people are hiring veterans right now. Everything on these jobsites have to be so perfect too to qualify you for the job. you have 2 and 80 chance getting the job.

Too often and not enough

Once you do that, you no longer control who they send your resumes to.... and in some cases you lose the right to choose a different headhunter to work with as it can be a contractual agreement that your job opportunity must come though the job search site you submitted to,.

You might try the website gijobs.com. I have never used them but I have been to the website a few times. Good luck!!
