Me with My buddy Frank Donahue Jr in 1968 at Da Nang, Vietnam in front of the hut We both lived in there. He was having a problem with the VA on disability despite problem directly related to Agent Orange. We talked about that a lot. I wrote a letter His Doctor used and He got His 100% finally due to that letter according to Him. , He is on the right Me on the left in the picture here. . The Agent Orange was not only sprayed on the perimeter We both worked but We both also worked a bunker post within 100 feet or where thousands of barrel of AO were stored and to this day nothing will grow there. One of His daughters was also born with physical birth defects. Other guys We served with already have died due to Agent Orange exposure. Just over one year after that on 06 March 2023 Frank Died due to that Agent Orange exposure. Up until them We did talk and were on many of the same Veteran's Facebook pages as well as each others.

Not since 2011-ish via facebook. I feel that chapter in my life is long and gone to be honest. I m a family man now and unfortunately that guys I ran with were not and not good role models. Or its a female and I dont want to cause problems or have problems caused if you know what I mean.

My battle buddies have remained in contact with me when possible but in majority the occurrences of our contact occurs when our country is faced with adversity. At this time of year the political tensions are much higher since it's an election year though am proud of fact our relationships aren't based on political views as opposed to personal/family well-being. Hope all continue to grow and have fruitful relationships with their battle buddies!

I connect on a day to day basis. My twin brother and I were both active duty members of military aviation. He was a Rescue swimmer for the navy. I was a flying crew chief on KC-10's. After many hours of flying in the sky and dreaming of one day getting out and opening a coffee shop together. We did it. Going 4 years strong and enjoying every minute of it.

Every couple of weeks, I check in with a handful of my brothers. We say more in a few sentences to each other, than any other conversation I have. We make it a priority to do Buddy Checks routinely.

Due to the rise of suicide, I try and contact my brothers from my unit monthly or bi-monthly even though it’s hard to get a hold of everyone I think about. But we definitely need all the communication and support we can receive from each other and resources! Semper Fi warfighters!

I do a better job as a reservist than I did active. We still have our group chats going, and I try to keep up with both sides. Occasionally I have a gentle reminder of an old friend/shipmates and I'll reach out to them to catch up and tell them as well. When I find myself in another state, I'll dig through my friends on Facebook who were either from my previous deployments and see if they are still in the area. Though we are far apart, we are all still connected.

I try to see my brothers as much as possible. One of my fellow team leaders currently lives with me and I’m helping him get into law enforcement. We travel to see our other bothers when we can. I definitely miss doc more than anyone though. He’s one of the best dudes Iv ever known.

I Fly Fish with Veterans several times annually, and we have other events together as well. I travel with an Army bud that I met in service early on. We have gone fishing, gone to concerts, on trains, planes, and automobiles! Another Army bud started a business to help my business, and it thrives to this very day!

I would love to set up a DLI reunion for all the service members who spent time at the Presidio in the 2010s. It was truly such a unique opportunity. My son plays with some of my battle buddies' kids from DLI. Unfortunately, staying in regular contact with my flight hasn't been a priority. It was easier to connect when I used Facebook and Instagram. But not inclined to use social media now. I miss being able to look up someone's email by typing in their name on outlook.

I am still good Friends with my Basic Training Battle Buddy. Yes MY Battle Buddy. We watched after each other. We both were able to get a Driver's license as we were a little bit older. We would go on runs and pick up Soldier's at the hospital during the night. We both went to Ft. Sam Houston after Basic. We promised to stay in touch. That we did. Letters, then came, e mail, cell phones, marriages, divorces, and even a meet up. It was not a long one , my Battle Buddy was going to meet her daughter and I lived 50 miles away and there was no way we were not going to let this pass us for a lunch together. We still do Christmas Cards, and Text. I will always remember my Bunkmate and Battlebuddy Buddy, Barbara!!

We communicate at least once a year, 11/13/67, a not so good day for Troop B 1st Squadron 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. We email or call each other on 11/13. We usually get together once a year for reunion with the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association or the Combat Helicopter Pilots Association. We generally keep in touch through out the year.

Well, I married mine; my wife and I met in the Navy, so everyday. Otherwise, I talk with one of my Navy buddies about once every 2 weeks. We've called each other for about 3 years now since we got out. It's been really helpful in transitioning and keeping each other up to date on VA programs.

Since 2004, approximately 60 battle buddies of B, 1/6, 198th LIB, Americal Division, RVN 1967-68, have been located. We have a contact list with home and email addresses. We have had multiple mini-reunions over the years as well as full-scale reunions in Branson, MO; Ft. Benning, GA; Arlington, TX; Shipshewana, IN; Port Clinton, OH. We have had monthly Zoom meetings for the past two years. Several brothers also connect on Facebook.

Connecting with my battle buddies in the Air Force is a bit like the unpredictable world of quantum mechanics. Our interactions vary, sometimes intense and close, like electrons in a tightly bound energy level, and other times scattered and distant, like electrons transitioning to higher states. Communication keeps us connected, much like particles sharing information through entanglement. The frequency of our connections is like the probabilities in a quantum wave function, but the bond remains unbroken, offering strength and inspiration for my career aspirations.

I connect with my battle buddies almost daily. Today is actually one of their birthdays and I was telling another buddy about times when we were on deployment and how much we have gotten older through the years. From gray hairs to gaining or losing weight. Even talked about how she learned to smoke a cigarette just to get a cigarette break but wasn't even a smoker. She til this day still works in the same exact field and positioned like she did when we were active. My other buddy we mostly talk about fishing and our families, some other ones we've talked about babies they've had recently or marriages. It's crazy how you can make lifelong friends from military that last a lifetime, and even watch their journey after service. I remember when they and myself were younger and things we could do easily then versus now. Or the many different things we would buy overseas or stuff we would do import or while on liberty. We all gained a lot from the military and not just suffered but it was all worth it. To think back how time flies so fast, and growing up as a military brat or having friends from different walks of life change and grow. Or not change at all which was a cool thing too. I'll never forget this chapter in my life and being in battle with them

Whether it be on the mats, TDY extracurricular activities, texts, direct messages, video calls, I am always in touch with all the people I've formed bonds with in the military. Sometimes it could be longer than I'd like, but checking in with them is a high priority of mine. Trying to reconnect on trips is a big one for me. I just recently had my friend who I met at Ramstein, and another I met at McGuire, venture out to Europe with me for a trip. Being in contact with my shop every day is a "norm" and I hope that never changes. Daily or weekly communication is vital, in keeping connections with your people and making sure they are always okay- if they are not, spend the time to hear them out and pray with them. I am so thankful the military has brought amazing people into my life.

I was in during peace time. Late 70's. Back in the 70's we really didn't have a way to keep in touch, as each time you moved you got a new telephone number. It's not like today with phone numbers that follow you and social media.

A few times a month. My battle buddy was Liz Pulliam & she and I met in Afghanistan. She was a civilian with the Defense Language Institute teaching the Afghans English. She would always notice someone singing in the restroom & realized it was me & from there, we worked out together, prayed together, went to Zumba together; she even taught me how to clean & disassemble/reassemble my weapon & I was the one in the service. We still pray together over the phone & encourage one another.

I have a friend, my family, former FCA2 and we talk every day. I’ve only been out for a year, my friend just got out a few weeks ago. I am very blessed to be able to support my friend through those first moments of “oh my god , I’m not in the military anymore” we spend hours on FaceTime , sometimes just doing each of our own tasks but just so we aren’t alone in this new unfamiliar territory of the civilian world. My navy family means everything to me, I always send birthday and Christmas cards, we support each others small businesses, and social media is great for connecting. My other really wonderful friend ET2 , we talk on the phone and have coffee every single Sunday, we will be living together soon when he gets out of the military. I recently reconnecting with and A school buddy while going to the vet center at my college. I start in three weeks and man am I glad that I have my navy family to help me. We connect in many ways but the best thing is, no matter what we are family and it’s like no time has ever passed. I also find new battle buddies at the gym , all different generations, branches and experiences coming together in a place to continue to improve each other and have each others backs. Facebook is a great tool as well, for example my mom recently reconnected with her bunk mate from boot camp after 43 years and it’s like no time has passed. Thankful for my navy family always

I do not communicate with anyone that was in mi squadron or tat I went through training with but have found myself gravitating towards other veterans of another time and o of other branches, pretty exclusively. I even started a charity to raise money for disabled veterans, war dogs and victims of cancer in 2018 and rode my motorcycle around the country and up to Prudhoe Bay AK in 2019 to raise awareness and seek those in need in person. 17,461 miles in 41 days. I found and helped many that actually helped me more than I helped them I feel, and still stay in contact with them as much as possible.

Personally, no strong bonds and only one connection attempt after ETS. I think there is a difference between serving in a war zone and serving stateside regarding forming lasting friendships. One connection I tried was phoning my roommate when I was at the airport in his hometown of Minneapolis. His wife answered the phone, I identified myself, and asked to speak to Karl. He wasn't interested in coming to the phone. That was Karl. He hated being in the service and I guess wanted to even put any contact behind himself.

Never, when I got out my husband was still active duty. I didn't fit in with the normal wives and I didn't fit in with his active duty friends. The friends that I had made fell to the wayside through time and distance.

My platoon had just 16 guys most of the time, and a few have now passed. About 20 years ago I searched online and found many of them and we met up in Las Vegas for its big Veterans Day Parade. I have arranged several more of these informal reunions. I am in regular email contact with 2 men(Dave and Ken) and less often with others. A few of us plan to meet again this year to attend the Las Vegas Parade which I think is the largest one in the country . Our last visit there was in 2019 before COVID. We stay at the Plaza hotel at Main & Fremont St. The "Fremont Street Experience" has good nightly video shows on the overhead ceiling. I am a life member of the 82nd Airborne Assoc. "Golden Brigade Chapter" and have attended a few annual reunions.

I had a fire that burned my log cabin in 2012 and I lost every thing I had including 22 years of military as well as lots of item from my high school and colleges! So I have lost a lot of my old buddies, I have found one who was a medevoc piolot

Since COVID happened, it seems as though many are struggling to find an everyday life again, and because of inflation, people are working more and communicating less. There are only a few of my buddies who made it back. I stay in touch with two of them multiple times each week. One doesn't like to communicate online so I only talk with him four or five times a year. We are all dealing with Agent Orange problems and/or PTSD issues. We are starting to look in to heart issues that our kids have. We are wondering if they are associated with Agent Orange? How do we get them compensation?

I met my battle buddy at Luke AFB, AZ. Filipino baller! We played basketball and Halo a lot. We were stationed together again at Ramstein AB, Germany. He's like a brother. Shout out to you Balili! He's still serving in the USAF; I finished my service recently. We chat it up every couple of months. He's still a solid dude.

I had texted and visited one of my bosses when I worked in Stan Eval. I am glad to have found one of my co-workers when working in ground scheduling. And keep in touch with my first commander at my first base I was stationed at. Plus a co-worker from my last assignment in a joint command. After retirement I lived near base and had almost daily interactions with my buddies, not retired and still in. A lot of Sunday brunches at the NCO Club. Since I moved back to St. Louis, not so much. There just isn't much of a military community here any more.

There's 13 of us Devil Dogs who text at least three times a week on the regular. We meet up on Memorial day and the Marine Corps birthday.

In 2010, I embarked on a life-changing journey when I joined the United States Navy. Little did I know that this experience would introduce me to some of the most incredible individuals I've ever met. Today, nearly a decade after leaving the service, I remain profoundly connected to the friends I made during those unforgettable years.
