How often does the 82nd Airborne Division deploy?

Every single conflict since WWII 82nd has had a minimum of an element involved. Even back in 1965 Elements were deployed to the Dominican Republic. During Vietnam a Brigade was deployed. Grenada, Panama, Dessert Shield/ Storm as well as all the post 911 engagements have involved the 82nd. Training wise elements are always on the go.

For the last 15 years or so, they've deployed about every other year or so.

The Army deployed by BCT and the Division HQ as a mission Command element. So you’ll find DIv HQs deployed with 1 organic BCT, or maybe the whole division, or the Division picked clean providing BCTs and other enablers to other Divisions. So your question, does the Division Deploy? Which part? As an entire Division?

There are always units from the 82nd deployed.

when the gov't decides to do saber rattling - they use the 82d, things like saying the 82d is in the air and the other side surrenders, that sort of thing, some times it works, some times it doesn't.

It is a very high op tempo Division with at least one Brigade element deployed at any given time. If not deployed, expect being on the go with training quite a bit.

Very busy, I remember that Up Brigade, Post support Brigade and a Brigade training. The up Brigade has an up Company in the Oldest Div area* right by Green Ramp packed and ready to be anywhere in 18 hours. An up Battalion in 36 hours with the rest following. Actual times depend on where and how fast AMC can marshal the planes at Pope Army Air Field, back then it was an AFB and had a MAW stationed there. A MAW was moved from USAFR in WI when it became an AAF, but I think they left. Post support does all the ash and trash details and Training is, wait for it, training. Always on the go.

* When I was in it was the Old Div area, but they have built a 3rd one now. New, Old and Oldest, LOL Kinda crappy, WWII barracks with a chain link fence around the barracks kinda like a prison.
