How’s infantry today?

I’m currently an 11x and I just wanted to know. How is it in the infantry? Does it suck as bad as people make it sound? And how do they select 11b and 11c?

I never thought the infantry was "bad". I suppose the particular unit has a lot to do with it. I loved my time with the 101st ABN but the 3rd ID really fed you some chicken shit.

11B or 11C is generally selected on enlistment. Check with your recruiter.

Dont listen to the people who bad mouth the Infantry. If you want to do "cool guy" stuff that is where you want to start out. If you like outdoorsy stuff, shooting, blowing stuff up and training to fight, that is where you want to be. The people who hate on the Infantry either dont like that kind of stuff or had a bad unit and didnt stick it out to see other units.
I wish I would have had more time in the Infantry.

The infantry life has changed, in garrison you’re going to be doing a bunch of medial task along with your standard training. I was with a light infantry unit while some of my friend were in a mechanized unit. Either way it’s all how you make it and the unit you go to. If you’re squared away you’ll get picks of the best schools and your leadership will thoroughly prepare you for the promotion board.

11b or 11c should be on your contract, if not once you get to basic they’ll determine if you were placed into a b or c slot

The Infantry of today, it is as always has been. It is as good as the leadership in the units. Infantry like all is a very physical yet requires intelligence and common sense in its Soldiers.

You are an 11X, you will see soon enough. Listen and learn, identify the good Soldiers in your unit and emulate while following the guidance of your NCOs.

Look, Sean- it is not a job, it is a way of life,, you get out of it what you put into it. They will tell you which way you are going to go. 11 bullet stoppers normally get more schools and better promotion time than other MOS's. PS, I doubt it really ever changed since Washington's day. Wet, cold, hungry, marching with wight, weapon maint., etc,

Honestly, it’s what you make of it. I served at JBLM from 2016-2019 and I hated every second of it. I thought my unit sucked, my leadership sucked( given some of the leadership was questionable) Anyway, I thought the Infantry was the equivalent to hell…. Fast forward a year and some change and here I am back in the infantry again. Except this time a different base, and a different unit, with a whole new outlook. It’s your career. Not someone else’s. Don’t let them get you down because their attitude sucks and they hate doing any sort of work at all.
Once you get in the mindset of, wow I’m getting paid to workout you’re life will be great. Anytime I hear someone complaining about how awful the unit is or how much they hate the army, I just tone it out. It’s the only way to make it through honestly.

The Infantry sucks but that’s what you’re joining the Army for. It’s the most fun you’ll ever have. 11 B and C are selected by height.

I enjoyed some time 11F, Infantry Operations and Intel Spec. Worked in TOC and placed pins in a map according to coordinates. Much better than an 11B!
