SGT Uplinger is right. The older ones got closed out, but the newer ones are smaller. They're overcrowded, so the post is approving SGT's and senior specialists (case by case) to move into on-post housing on BAH.

They have recently built new ones. They are getting rid of the old ones. The first room I had was pretty bad with black mold. But the new ones don't have that issue yet. Just maintain a clean room and make sure to clean the wall.

I really can't add any valuable information on the subject, but got quite a laugh out of the question and thought I'd share this. I went to Fort Polk in September of 1967 for AIT. Was told at the time that the barracks I was in was used for POWs during WWII. Don't know if it was true or not, but that was the story. I sure hope those buildings are no longer in use. There was also a joke about chaining a cockroach to the front entry steps to keep the alligators away. Yeah, the cockroaches were pretty big, but I don't recall seeing any alligators while I was there. My training was 36K, so I'm not talking about the famous "Tigerland" which almost assuredly preceded a trip to the real jungle. Never went to the jungle, spent all my active duty time in Germany, in WWII German barracks. Go figure.
