How safe/risky is bungee jumping?

How safe or how risky is bungee jumping ? Does an active duty Servicemember need to secure permission to engage in such activity ? Have you bungee jumped ? Would you ?

I'd be afraid the rope would break. I'd prefer to sky-dive. I believe a Service Member should at least tell his Supervisor or battle-buddy so someone knows to check up on her/him later.

I suspect that you would need to secure permission before. I don't know the statistics but for the most part, I am not aware of that many accidents. Personally while I will skinny up the Mast of a Ship in the blink of an eye, I don't like heights but as long as I have plenty of Handholds I don't care that much. This looks like something my daughter and granddauthers would love and they would love to have me do it too.

Funny story here, years ago out CSM walk by a few mechanics and their CWO working on top of a hemmit truck. She said, "Chief, I think those Soldiers need an ACH" and he respond with, "Sergeant Major, Soldiers jump out of an airplane and you are worried about 6 feet?". She walked away in disgust. Good for him to stand up to her.
