How should I go about dropping an SFAB packet after being DA select for Drill Sergeant? Would it override my drill orders?

Let me start by saying that had plans to going SFAB to begin with before receiving my DA select drill orders this past Friday. I was planning on dropping an SFAB packet and was told it would override my drill orders. 1. is this true 2. am I bad for thinking this. I respect drill sergeants completely but with SFAB I would be able to get a deployment which is something I'm lacking. Thanks

Perhaps Drill then SFAB.. a huge stabalization if at Benning? I havent looked into it but sounds like a great option.

There is a very lengthy training program in many environments before you would be deployable. It is not like you get assigned and off you go. Make sure you are doing your homework for either decision.

SFAB is the Army's highest priority right now, higher than drill. You still have to attend the selection and be selected to come off of drill. Which means, if your drill school date is before the next selection and you messed around getting your request signed, then you may have missed your shot.

I was on drill orders as well prior to SFAB assessment, I didn’t realize it until after the fact though.

Like others have said, SFAB is the Army's top priority right now.

1- If you are clearing the los unit and Post then you have until your last day your losing Unit/Post to drop your packet.
2- You can always try for DI and become a brown hat, but ask yourself:
A- Would you rather become a DI after you have some combat experiences under your belt, so those new recruits are trained correctly?
Anyways, you can always drop a SFAB packet, but your Unit CMD has to sign and approved of it before to go for the selection process. But the SF recruiter can pull you out of your Unit if what they are looking for is needed.

I’ve been at 2SFAB since they stood up in 2018. We had guys coming off of drill/recruiter orders back then but the need was higher. As the other brigade have filled I’m not sure the flood gates are still open. Additionally as some have said, you Still have to be selected and for folks that think it’s automatic, out of the 30 or so in my A&S they only picked up 12 of us and this was like I said when 2 was still recruiting so the other 4 were bare. Contact the Sfab recruiting team and they should be able to answer your questions.

Have you chatted with a SFAB recruiter, or retention person? They can probably give you some of the more accurate information.
