How should I wear my ASU? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-should-i-wear-my-asu

So I’ve finished processing into my unit 2/508 and I’m wondering how I should be wearing my ASU now. I know I could just ask my leaders but that’s why I love rally point. So I can ask the community and not look like a bozo lol
I have to put my wings on the uniform. Should I be getting jump boots? That seems like the right call.. is the 82nd division insignia on the right below the breast pocket only for those that have deployed? 2/508 has a bunch of unit awards as well. I’m to understand those are authorized for temporary wear if you’re in the unit but did not participate in what got the award. However I don’t wanna be the only one not wearing them if/when we do wear our asu.

Thanks guys and gals! Wear your wings. On jump status? You should be able to buy jump boots. If you have not deployed, don't buy the 82nd insignia. You are correct about the unit awards being temporary and you can wear them now that you're in the unit. As a PFC, they should be available from supply and you don't need to buy them, but go for it if they're not.

Best of luck....and don't neglect to go to your leadership for questions like this in the future, that's literally what they are there for. It usually covers the wear of organizational items such as background trimming on the wings, jump boots, blousing, foreign Fourragères if authorized. Did you not get one at in processing?

In this case I would ask my first line leader. That is their job. The 82d insignia belowthe right breast pocket flap is a Combat Service Identification Badge (CSIB). Wear that without a combat deployment and you will look like a boot....and all the unwanted attention you can handle.

You should have been issued unit awards and Fourragères for temporary wear from the supply room. Your first line should be ensuring you put them together correctly. The unit lineage dictates which ones. AR600-8-22 dictates order of precedence. AR/DA PAM 670-1 direct how and when worn.

Your first line leader needs to help you with information and a pre-Class A wear day (sometimes payday activities) inspection. Hangar inspection at a minimum to make sure you are good to go. You'll look like a bozo if you wing it on your own. Soldiers in the unit that do not wear the proper unit awards configuration get lots of attention. You won't be the only one wearing them, it's a group activity.... AR 670-1 will answer 15%. Division blue book will answer 9%. That last 1% you will have to ask tour leaders.

Even when I was setting up my uniform for retirement ceremony - having set up uniforms for over 20 years - I still had both the 670-1s open and went step by step. Seriously, use them and you can't go wrong. Also if you needed anything, a lot of the time they would give it to you if they had it. Also it never hurts to be on the 1st Sgt's. good side... There is nothing wrong with not knowing something and nothing wrong with asking for the knowledge.
