How to connect with Special Forces Soldiers

I am interested in joining Special Forces, but I would like
to connect with current SF Soldiers in order to learn from them what I need to
do to prepare for SFAS.A friend of mine from my unit is also looking at joining
Special Forces. He is married and has a two year old son, so it is a big family
decision for them. His wife has some concerns about SF, and they both feel it
would be very beneficial for their family to meet with other families of SF
Soldiers in order to answer any of their questions and address her concerns.Rally Point is a great tool to connect with SF Soldiers, but out of respect for their privacy, I don't want to contact them directly. If anyone knows someone in Special Forces who would be willing to help out either my friend or myself, please feel free to contact me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What you might want to do is look at getting in touch with an SF Recruiter in your area. Here at Fort Riley there is a Team that assists Soldiers in prepping for Selection by getting them ready through, PT, Strengthening and conditioning. The rest is mental. SPC Kubat <div> </div><div>I can appreciate your respect for their privacy but I strongly encourage you to follow SSG Brown and SPC California's advice. Those SF guys wouldn't be on RP if they wanted that much privacy. Plus ANY good NCO would be willing to help you out, SF or not. </div>

Mark, lots of good advice from the other posters here. Another resource for you would be: http://www.professionalsoldiers.com . I never did much with it, because my generation of SOF Soldiers were not very active on social media and were rather private. Truth be told, I never refused to a Soldier in the Commissary that asked me questions about being in SF or wanted me to explain to his wife that being SF did not mean they could not have a good family life. Back to the website. I noticed that many of our younger teammates were active on that page, and are open to having a discussion with guests. A SF recruiter should really be able to tell you the physical aspects of what you need to do to prepare for SFAS - there used to be a booklet with a training plan. The teamwork, mental toughness, and other qualities that they are looking for are just as important. Good luck in your decision and your pathway.

A lot of it is mental. I tried out when I was in back in the early 90's. Work out your upper body for strength not muscle mass. Do lots of endurance training. And go in with a mindset of never quitting. I seen a lot of guys just give up. Talk with a sf recruiter and they can give you solid advice on how to get ready.
