How was your experience reporting for the first time after being directly commission as AMEDD officer with no prior service?

I just commissioned earlier this year ( Not prior service) , according to my recruiter I am just awaiting my set of orders so that I can report for my first drill weekend. I know that someone from the recruiting office will take me for my first drill. But I am curious for all of you that direct commission how your first day was and what you learned from it.

Sir: Please remember to report to you Commander immediately to receive their guidance. Once you are slotted in a Platoon or a section, your first thing to do would be to find the Platoon Sergeant or Section NCOIC and ask for a thorough rundown of your section and the missions that are required. I would sit back a little and learn from your PSG, but remember, DO NOT BE A WALL FLOWER. You are the Platoon Leader, be engaged but learn at the same time. It will be a delicate balance, but many have done it. Sir, Good luck on your future in the Army! My hope is that you are surrounded with NCO's that will train, inspire, and motivate you!!! That is their mission, your success.!!! Good luck sir!

Are you sure that you want a recruiter taking you to drill.
It's not like first day of kindergarten

I'd echo CSM Poll's comments. Bring appropriate paperwork along (PT card, copy of your degree & transcripts, other training certificates, etc) for inprocessing. Don't bring the recruiter/career counselor, but call the Unit Administrator and contact the unit commander for detailed instructions. Be sure to make a good first impression on everyone. I was prior enlisted, and actually taught a class that morning as an enlisted soldier and finished it the same afternoon as an officer. Was company commander the following drill (2003, all of our other officers got deployment orders).

Witk with everyone you meet and save and read everything you are given. As a "Mustang" I was an E6 when I received Direct Appointment but I made sure I did all I could do to work my way into positions of Authority and finally retiring as a SrFiekd GradeJ Officer. Hooah!!!
