Looking for answers as to prior service in AIT at Fort Huachuca, AZ. I am currently an active duty Marine (No break in Service) and I already started the process for transfer to the Army. I was told that I would go straight to AIT, be houses in separate barracks, have access to my POV, my phone, and just generally be treated better than the recruits. My question is how will I be treated? Will I have the evenings and weekends off? Thank you!

Yes prior service gets more privileges and you're separated from the IET kids out of class. We had reclass soldiers in my AIT. Outside of class we weren't supposed to fraternize with them but people did. That was back in 2004-05 when I was at Huachuca for AIT.

In addition to what has been said, which is pretty spot on, please note that you DO still belong to that unit, even outside of class.
I did two different AITs at Huachuca as a re-class (One after my initial term, and the second when they got rid of the MOS I had re-classed to). One of them the only time we saw the IETs was during class - we chowed separate, PTed separate, traveled separate, etc. The other, we PTed with the IETs, went back to barracks for 3 Ss, then back to Company to march to class with the IETs, march to and from chow with the IETs (didn't have to eat at DFAC, but we did have to march), march back to Company at end of class for unit announcements / admin. From there, we were released to barracks while IET did area beautification / barracks maintenance / company training / etc.
We also had to do Common Task Training with them, and were even tasked (as NCOs and SMEs) to train some of the basic Soldier skills to the IETs.

The former is more normal, the latter more extreme. But go in with an open mind, and low expectations for free time or personal autonomy. That way it can only be better, and you won't be disappointed or frustrated if you find yourself in a more structured / restrictive unit.

It's entirely based on the Command and what MOS you're going into.

Generally yes, Prior service is treated better and has more privilliages.

Without knowing your MOS, it will be difficult to understand what base or location you're going to.

The prior service I have dealt with all were in separate barracks or lived in housing if they had long class. They also got to have their POV and had their weekends too. This was all before COVID though. Things could be different now. Cpl (Join to see)

Yeah all of this couldn't be said better. You'll likely be treated pretty similar to how you're treated now which is basically permanent party. Huachuca is cool as well if you're an outdoorsman. Plenty of hiking trails, Tombstone and Bisbee are close. Small town but some pretty good restaurants as well. I'd recommend 143 Tacos, Bisbee Breakfast Club, and Rodolfo's or Filiberto's. Fair warning though it gets surprisingly cold in the winter if you're there that long.

I got reclassed and ended up teaching the digital and troubleshooting portion of the course. I asked my commander if I could take 2 weeks leave as the class I had to take I not only taught but I wrote all of the tests for the class. No luck. I had to teach the class then had to take the very tests I wrote
