If there were mass weapons and explosives involved in yesterday’s events, there would have been many more causalities. Think about that, with all that happened that not more people were hurt, that tells you “most” of the people there were peacefully. This is a totally different story from the last half year with Antifa and Black Lives Matter assaulting people, rioting, and such. One can plainly see: some of these people have respect, some do not. I keep reading reports that they were armed, but the only details I've seen were that the police found a single AR in the trunk of a vehicle. If that was the only firearm found, none of the Trump supporters were armed with firearms and the headlines are hype. And since it is unlawful to carry a firearm without a permit in DC -- and DC is one of the hardest places in the world to get a permit -- if they really were armed with firearms, why didn't law enforcement simply arrest them prior to the rioting? Could it be that maybe they really weren't armed with firearms? The headlines all say, "FOUR PEOPLE DEAD", but the only person shot was a female Trump supporter who was shot by capital security while climbing through a barricade, and she's one of the four who died. If you or I shot someone who was merely trespassing, climbing through a barricade, we would be prosecuted for using deadly force against an unarmed person who had not threatened us in any manner; if that person died, we would be prosecuted for murder. The articles say the other three people died from other medical emergencies. Once you actually read the articles, the headlines appear to be all hype.

But regarding your question, The Dems now have majorities in the House and Senate and they have the Presidency, so it won't be difficult for them to pass whatever legislation they want, and they've been all about gun control for decades. I'm sure they'll hype what happened at the capital as an immediate reason for why the country needs gun control , but it really isn't even a blip on their radar for what they have already planned to do. Their problem is that any gun control legislation passed will be challenged in the courts by gun rights supporters. And those court cases potentially will make their way to the Supreme Court of the United States. And the 6-3 conservative majority on SCOTUS is much more likely than not to hand down a decision in favor of gun rights. And every SCOTUS decision in favor of gun rights is another nail in the coffin of gun control. So the Dems have to be very careful about what gun control legislation they pass because the more draconian the legislation, the more likely SCOTUS will shoot it down.

Finally, if you educate yourself on the 2nd Amendment, you'll find out that it exists to allow us, the people, to rise up, when necessary, against our own government, such as what happened at the capital. It's the linchpin freedom that protects all of our other freedoms because it makes politicians think twice. And that's why power-hungry politicians want to get rid of it. Because once it's gone, and all the guns in the hands of the citizens are gone, we will no longer be citizens but will be subjects; subject to tyranny from the power-hungry politicians. They were likely carrying pistols and possibly ar-15s.

One point of concern, while I highly support law enforcement, the shooting of an unarmed woman inside Congress needs to be investigated. Seeing as how she was a Trump supporter, I am not surprised that Liberals aren't demonstrating the shooting

BTW, "assault weapons" are fully automatic firearms which are highly restricted and relatively few people have them. The vast majority of rifles such as AR-15s and pistols are not fully automatic requiring someone to squeeze the trigger each time for the weapon to fire.
