How will the QMP/QSP affect today's "fast tracker" NCO? Say a SFC with 8 years TIS who will probably be sitting at that grade for a while.

With all the downsizing, do today's "fast tracking" NCOs need to worry about being cut due to having a massive TIG due to slowed promotions under the draw down? How do you think the Army can compensate for this?

Stagnation does not equate to TIG..<div><br></div><div>Based on declining promotion rates in certain MOS's, it will be common for folks to have longer and longer TIGs (in fact, just recently, the TIG requirements for Sr NCOs just increased).</div><div><br></div><div>Stagnation really translates to what are you doing to improve yourself? Even if you are at the same grade for a while, have you been doing the same job the whole time? Have you done nothing to increase your skill set? Then, yep, you are stagnating.</div><div><br></div><div>NCOs need to take control of their career and do their 24 months in a job and then move on. Find another challenge, do a special job and keep improving yourself.</div><div><br></div><div>Are you taking some college? Are you continuing to enroll in military education? Are you still taking military courses? Are you gaining additional SQIs/ASIs/PDSIs?</div><div><br></div><div>There are lots of things YOU can do to ensure that the board doesn't perceive you as being stagnated.</div>

Excellent response. CSM, you helped put my mind at ease. I was of the mind set that being stagnate was TIG related. Most helpful.

CSM Maynard, I agree with the others here in that your explanation it's very helpful; however, if I may amend one of your statements, from my personal experience. I have been in my current position/post for 24 months now, so I called Branch and they told me that because of the cutbacks, the 24 month timeframe has been moved to 36 for everyone, not just initial entry Soldiers. Now, this may only be in my MOS, so if it doesn't pertain to you, then nevermind. However, I'm in the Signal Corps and that's what my Branch told me. Since I hate it here in El Paso, I volunteered for Korea or Recruiting and he told me that if I didn't come down on orders by month 30 to call him back.

SGT Pruett - not sure of your MOS, but if your on Ft Bliss, there are quite a few units. Even if you have to stay 3yrs, that doesn't mean you have to do the same job in the same unit for the whole 3yrs. Take a look around and see what other options are available to you.

CSM Maynard, This was a spot on and excellent response. As a "fast tracker" I have worried about this. But have sought and succeeded in challenging positions every 24 to 36 months per my MOS career map. Thanks for the candid and informed response.

<p>SSG, Spaeth,</p><p> </p><p>Don't worry. The Army is looking for those POS SFC that are trying to hide out until retirement with DUIs and ART 15s in their records. I understand your concern. I'm a SFC with 9 years TIS. I didn't promote myself, the board did based off of my past and leadership potential. If you are maintaining the standard and progressing, you will be ok. The Army's QMP/QSP process will weed out some of the toxic leadership. Just give it time.</p>

<p>In addition, you still have the Retention Control Points. </p><p>QMP is not new and Bar to Reenlistment is not used. We use to have retention boards and you had to score so many points to reenlist. </p><p>This is just another tool to reduce the force by skill and grade, they are trying not to have another Task Force Smith and VSI/SSB. </p><p> </p><p>side note - Most Fast Track folks I saw walking out the door at 20 years because they had no where to go/move up</p>
