Burroughs, I am fully covered by the VA. My sons are all adults - two are insured on their own, one is incarcerated at Fort Leavenworth so he should be covered and the other is unknown.
On the other hand my wife is completely uncovered by health insurance at this point.
The court ruling could affect us in several ways - one the fine which is called a tax for non-coverage may be invalidated - that would be a good thing. If in the unlikely event that the court invalidated enough of the Affordable Car Act so that it fell apart. After the dust settled, health care improvement may be able to progress in a reasonable, incremental and logical fashion at hopefully a lower cost to all concerned. I am still hopeful that tort reform will help draw down insurance costs and other actions will reduce the paperwork burden on doctors and their offices which would further reduce medical costs.Response by LTC Stephen F. made Jun 17 at 2015 11:04 AM2015-06-17T11:04:11-04:002015-06-17T11:04:11-04:00Sgt Jay Jones752688

My wife and I are well taken care of with my insurance that I carried into retirement from my employer and my medicare. It most likely will regardless of the method you are currently using to fund your healthcare today.

Obamacare is going to fail, regardless of the court's decision. It simply is not economically viable. Lacking a mandate that all Americans will be covered (the mystical single-payer system), it cannot maintain itself. Until it fails, it will continue to drag down all other systems. It is already scheduled to sap funds from Medicare. It will most likely sap funds from the VA system as its administrators struggle to keep it on life support. It is already driving health care providers out of the profession and closing health care facilities. You think that won't affect you?

Don't worry. We won't revert to the old system. It too was broken and cannot be resuscitated.

So what's going to happen? It's already happening in some places and it looks good to me. Healthcare practitioners are setting up private practices where they accept only direct payment. It's affordable because they aren't saddled with the costs of reporting to government- or private- run insurers and receiving only a small fraction of their invoices. I've even heard of CVS pharmacies that have doctors on staff who will walk you around the store to help you pick out the over-the-counter medications you need or write prescriptions that are filled while you wait.

I trust that local communities will take care of themselves just fine without Big Brother in Washington mandating another broken, politically-driven system full of bureaucrats making our health care decisions for us. Shouldn't that be left between doctors and patients?Response by CPT Jack Durish made Jun 17 at 2015 11:23 AM2015-06-17T11:23:50-04:002015-06-17T11:23:50-04:00SPC Ben Cedeno752793

The system has already failed before it began, how is obummercare going to help the majority when so many are exempt (Congress, The House, Senate, Muslims & even Barry & his family). It's making private insurance look more appealing day by day. I don't know what the numbers are like now, but prior to Obamacare, Tricare was paying 7% less than Medicare in my area, and providers were dropping Tricare like hot potatoes.

There are other providers who drop Medicare left and right. Once you hit 65 and end up on TFL (or if you're on SSDI, as I am, and have Medicare before 65) you are also very vulnerable. There are fewer and fewer Medicare providers every day.

I have heard from some providers that "Obamacare" pays less than even Tricare. That's a little misleading, because the ACA doesn't pay anyone. PRIVATE insurance companies sell all the insurance mandated by the ACA. The reason that costs are high and benefits poor is because there is no regulation on these providers, and they are taking advantage of beneficiaries in many ways.

Under old medical insurance ways, your employer/union made a contract with your insurer to provide certain benefits and charge certain charges. Under the ACA, there are no such bargaining chips - the insurance companies are free to do what they want.

Had the ACA just gone to universal Medicare, it would have been a much more efficient, effective solution, but keep in mind, Obama modeled the ACA on "RomneyCare" in Massachusetts. All of the ACA's flaws are brought to you courtesy of a completely paralyzed DC. Even during Obama's first two years in office with a Democrat Congress, he couldn't do much of what he wanted due to gridlock, filibusters, etc.

I don't know who the next President will be; I hope it's not a Clinton or Bush, but from the choices I have seen so far, I am afraid, very afraid...Response by LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow made Jun 17 at 2015 5:38 PM2015-06-17T17:38:04-04:002015-06-17T17:38:04-04:00SCPO Private RallyPoint Member754304

Will not be at all.
