How would a permanent profile affect my career and goals? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-would-a-permanent-profile-affect-my-career-and-goals

I’m a 20YO E-4, with my first contract ending in 2022 (reserves). and in July 2018 I tore a ligament in my wrist while in Iraq. Due to circumstances, I wasn’t able to get treatment until I got back to Kuwait in August. I did two attempts at Physical therapy until October, which is also when my last temp profile expired. My case manager said if I needed another profile, it would have to be a permanent. Since then I’m attempting to get stronger and get back to the same level I was at, but I’m still having sharp pain when I put pressure on my wrist when it’s bent. I want to make the Army my career so I’m worried how a permanent would affect my ability to succeed, especially since I want to go AD and reclass to 68W or 68F, then eventually go to medical school and become a field surgeon. How would a permanent profile negatively impact my career/goals or what other options do I have? TIA. I have 2. Oddly, both conditions that were completely ignored when I was on active duty because it didn't interfere with the PT Test but the Army Reserve made me get profiles for them (Asthma and Sleep Apnea).

It could interfere with going active, but I doubt it. The bottom line is, you don't have much choice in the matter. You recover so you don't need a profile (that doesn't sound likely) or you get the profile.

Do your best and everything will work out the way it's supposed to.
Good Luck LTC Private RallyPoint Member Sat, 28 Mar 2020 07:46:00 -0400 2020-03-28T07:46:00-04:00 Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 28 at 2020 12:19 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-would-a-permanent-profile-affect-my-career-and-goals?n=5711703&urlhash=5711703

Im a reservists who has a permanent profile, a SFC, a Detachment Sergeant (for the second time), and three MOSs. Your career is what you make it. Not saying the perm profile will stop you from being a medic or field surgeon....it will just make it a little more challenging to attain that goal. A torn ligament usually requires surgery to repair it. Why have they not offered you Surgery? The only hic cup that you may encounter is when you try and go active duty and reclass.
