My Grand dad was in WWII. He was drafted 6/29/44. Was assigned to the 2nd int Div (Indian head) How would I go about getting his service record. His wife (my grandma) is still alive would I have to get her to request it. I don't know much but I do remember him saying he was at the Battle of the Bugle and that he was awarded either a silver or bronze star.

Be aware that many records were destroyed in a fire in 1972. I think most of the records were from G - W. I know my father's were destroyed. Good luck.

Cpl Douglas Loven - you have to piece it together with the Unit History which you can readily look at on the Center for Military History Website. Google 2d Infantry Division Combat Chronicles WW II and it should come up. Figuring out which Regiment in 2ID will give you a fuller picture. The records you'd get from NPRC are not likely to,tell you the your GF was on the left flank of the Battle of Uptyfrance, unless he has a citation in orders for a Valor award.

Does your grandmother have anything? His serial number can help you look at the electronic induction card from when he came in. I reveresed engineered some information just from his shadow box.

You will want to look at Army Regulation 600-8-22 as I did in this thread to investigate what decorations he likely had. https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/helping-a-wwii-veteran-retrieve-his-uniform?urlhash=3998328

Cpl Douglas Loven - many records were water damaged, so they may exist but are in horrendous shape.
