Former Naval Officer here looking to go back for some more fun in the Military.... this time I'm looking at enlisting and branching intelligence (since I wouldn't be able to qualify for it on the officer side). My focus is primarily on 35L (Army Counterintelligence Agent). Any advice on how to get a jump start on making the most out of this new potential career?

I'm not a 35L, but we have 35L's in my Reserve unit. If you want to make the most out of it I'd recommend active duty as that is where 35L's can be assigned to investigative units.

If you stay enlisted for a bit then go green to gold/OCS you'll likely be branched for CI. If that's the case there are openings all across the country. This is only what I've managed to find online, but allegedly CI officers can be stationed in big cities like NYC.

SPC Ted Ronayne you would be an MI officer after your basic course. You could either secure a AOC (area of concentration)course after BOLC, or the Captains course or seek through branch to get an assignment in a Unit where you need an AOC and your unit would send you either enroute or after you arrive. After the Captains course is most likely, but have seen some folks work it after BOLC, and or move from one u it to another on a post and then go; and a small sliver of folks are just lucky leprechauns and get their units and branch to agree to send them for professional development - but My experience is that’s a unicorn

Well then you will get all the training you need at CISAC. You might not have a say-so, but getting field office time after CISAC (especially initially) is always good experience in my opinion, and will put you in a role that could potentially lead to some of the most rewarding activities we do as agents. Stateside this going to be with the 902nd MI Group. But any MI brigade with investigative/operational CI missions are always good (including the 66th MI BDE, 500th, 501st, and the 650th/NATO, to name a few). After a few years, you may be able to drop a warrant packet. In fact, depending on how long it has been since your officer training, you may be able to waive WOCS if you go warrant due to the fact regular officer commissioning schools are often accepted in lieu of WOCS (not 100% sure about Navy officer schools though, but I am sure it would be easy to find out).

Awesome. Going Warrant wasn't really a blip on my radar until I asked this question. Thanks for the insight
