I think a simultaneous assault on terrorists in 5-6 countries/areas in the mid-east at the same time would be a start. Lets pull a Shock and Awe and pound them all at once and then carry on sorties in all areas for the next year. SpecOps missions, drones, sabotage, snatch and grabs (lets fill Gitmo back up) snipers and whatever else we can do to keep them paranoid and unable to plan. They’re able to pick up a go to areas where they need to reinforce. Lets take that away from them. How would you go on the offensive against terrorism? 2017-02-27T22:34:09-05:00 LCpl Private RallyPoint Member 2378139

Terrorist really don’t know what we are capable of doing and by demonstrating the power and might, we can convince them. You might as well have a war on the frontal assault, or pincers movement.

As many have said, you need to eradicate the SOURCE(S) of the problem. In the case of Islamic terrorism, it's the doctrine. However, sometimes this isn't effective either. Look at the videos of ISIS committing mass murders, mass beheadings, etc. You would think this would rile people up and motivate them to resist. It didn't. It still doesn't. The average Iraqi guy on the street doesn't care about geo-politics; he cares about where his next meal is coming from, and perhaps the electricity that allows him to have a bare lightbulb and a B&W TV in his hut. Life is cheap over there, and the slaughter of scores of "other people" (especially if a different sect of Islam) doesn't really rile people up.

The only real progress will be made if/when nations come together to crush the violent extremism that breeds the genocidal ideologies and such. Until then, we will keep dealing with what we have always dealt with because we keep doing what we have always done. It has no military significance, being a farming community with no terrain feature of tactical significance.

According to Islamist prophesies favored and promoted by Daesh, Dabiq is where the forces of Mahdi would emerge victorious against the infidels. From there, the forces of Mahdi would march victorious to Constantinople and then onto the heart of the Roman Empire (generally interpreted now as the West). Although apocalyptic prophesies may sound fanciful, many Daesh rank-and-file appear to take the narrative surrounding Dabiq seriously. The town is central to Daesh’s narrative of inevitability and was the namesake of their principal propaganda publication.

So, what I would do is take and fortify Dabiq, similar to what we did at Bagram, Afghanistan. (I.e. automated counter-mortar systems, T-walls, and clear fields of fire, and a brigade combat team.) Then I would mock Daesh as much as possible, inviting them to come and kick us out. A self-important movement like Daesh cannot afford to be laughed it. Meanwhile I would send the SF out nightly to make their lives miserable.

Their equivalent to Armageddon cannot happen until we fight there, so we could use their own literature to goad them into a futile attack, and kill as many as possible. As I understand it, they expect to lose all but about 5,000, at which point Jesus will come back, having converted to Islam, and kill us all. Anyway, it would be a relatively low-cost way of getting them to come to us, instead of us having to search them out.
