All benefits are paid to first day of the month following the month your claim(s) are filed. Any additional compensation of benefits for dependents depends...depends on whether your claims were approved at the time of adoption. If the adoption takes place AFTER claims are adjudicated you will be compensated from the date of adoption. If the adoption is in progress while claims are in progress, you should be compensated at two rates...without dependents up to the date your adoption was granted and compensation for dependents from the date of adoption.

Short answer is yes because that's what I went through. They'll want a copy of your court decree. Sometimes they may want a new (with your surname) birth certificate. Once I sent mine in, the cash flowed.
