You don't board until going up to O-4 which the flow point is around 9 years. So make sure you're doing a great job in which good paper will result. A number of O-2/3 jobs are plums for the best. NAVPERS will issue guidance once you hit TIG (time in grade). Automatic isn't free. There is still paperwork you'll have to do or sign. And make sure to request / get a copy of your new commissioning cert.
