I am about to go to Warrant Officer Candidate School. What advice/tips do you wish someone had told you before you got there?

Make sure you’ve got great form on your push ups. The TACs are going to heavily scrutize your push up form on your initial APFT prior to going to 1st WOC. Also, there are heavy demerits for getting caught swearing.

Time management is critical to getting everything done. WOCS is designed to put you under stress and keep you there. If you commit to it, make time for all the tasks and get them done when you plan to. The first task to skip or put off, reduces the time you have to do other things and adds to you stress levels. Plan, Plan, Plan. Stay flexible. Honest and work hard. Be is as good of shape physically as you possibly can before you report. It will reduce that stress factor. If you can max all PT events BEFORE you arrive, so much the better.

Learn to manage egos. Your own, and your fellow candidates. Just about everyone there was a stellar soldier where they came from.

Also, get your us army and nametapes sewn on.

Bring books. After week1/2 you will be bored out of your mind. Stencil your stuff ahead of time while you’re apart of HHC. It’s the easiest school in the Army as long as you can get past the TRADOC BS. And as all of the previous replies, know when to let others lead.

Remember, it is all a test, from beginning to end. I was a TAC officer at the Reserve Component WOEC at Fort McCoy, WI when it started up and I went through WOC-D at Rucker previously.

Be ready to eat when others eat and wipe your mouth the same time others do too and also to sit down at the dinner table at the same time as well. I saw the WOCs mostly when I was at the chow hall when I was Active Duty it showed me right then that would Not be for me.

I’ve been retired since MAY 98, SFC Private RallyPoint Member, so I can offer no timely advice, other than to be in good physical condition.

I did this 51 years ago as a prior service Marine and had already served in Vietnam. I'm sure it has changed but this is all good advice...........suck it up you are there to learn.........

A favorite saying in my OCS class which proved to be true was, "Cooperate and graduate." This was especially important since in addition to being rated by the TAC, we were also rated by our fellow candidates.

I'm heading to wocs in July 2020. Is the DL portion still a requirement?
