Why would you reclass just to go and commission. Also the job of a chaplain assistant is very different from that of the Chaplin.

I want the experience, and I won’t be able to get picked up for rangers at my age I’m going to need some more time in service.

In order to reclass you would need to talk to your retention NCO. I can tell you that E4 is over strength right now bc I had a soldier trying to reclass a week ago to 56M.
If you want to become a chaplain I assume you know you need to obtain your MDiv. and have 2 years ministry experience. The best thing you can do is go “chaplains candidate” route. You will spend approx three years in seminary while serving in the guard or reserve. You don’t need to finish your current contract if you have been accepted to a seminary college you can drop your packet and get commissioned as chaplain candidate.

Also, you will have to be licensed and ordained as well.

As a former Chaplain's Assistant for twenty-five years, I might have some knowledge in this matter. Have you've spoken to your unit Chaplain about becoming a Chaplain? They would be your best source, but the Chaplain's Assistant MOS is also a good MOS to be in too.

Yes I have started the process. But to become a chaplain for the rangers I’ll need some more age under my belt. I’m not to fond of supply.

56M is a great MOS to get into if you want to become a 56A. I'm saying this because as a 56M,- Religious Affairs Specialist/NCO (as of 4 OCT, 2017) you take on many roles as an officer such as; sitting in command and staff/ training meetings when your chaplain isn't able to, briefing the CSM about the Soldiers in the BN and a lot of other officer skills. Just remember, as a Religious Affairs Specialist, you are logistics expert and pretty much run the UMT as far as the back ground stuff goes. But the MOS 56M will prepare you to become a 56A if that's what you want, just please understand that it might also change your mind as well. The best advise I can give is talk to a chaplain whom was enlisted, they probably got out and went and got their Masters Degree in Seminary or something like that and went to CHBOLC.

SGT (Join to see) - I am currently doing my masters, I spoke with a few Chaplains they agree 56m is not a bad route to go; i plan to stay enlisted a few more years, why not do it working as a servant before i commission?
