I am currently enlisting, I already have my EMT, so what happens since I already have it and I’m wanting to be a combat medic? Will I still go through all the AIT schooling? If not will I stay there or go home?

You'll be fast tracked through the EMT portion and placed into the combat medic portion. The scope of practice for a medic far exceeds a civilian EMT.

My advice is don’t be “That Guy.” Keep your civilian knowledge on the down low. Nobody wants to hear civilian EMT war stories or how you did it in the civilian world. You are going to learn the army way of medicine.

I agree. If you do this, folks will think you believe that you are better than them. That never sits well. Stay humble! Use your expertise to help a few battles to understand. My wife had to do this. She was a RN and went though AIT, because her degree was from South Korea. You will recertify everything that you have learned!

There are stark differences within all of the medical training. Bottom line is, at worst you have a jump on what to expect during the EMT type training. Be happy to learn and share with others, Teamwork is the basis of all military activity. Enjoy what you receive. Thank you for enlisting.
