SFC Retention Operations Nco
It's the DEP, it means literally nothing after you ship off. It will not grant you some special honorary status or leadership position when you arrive to Boot Camp, you'll have to earn your position at that time.

Spend your time getting your life in order before you leave. If you have that down, spend your time working out. The military is a great introduction to a lifelong engagement with fitness

They must have changed things since I was in DEP - I don't remember being in a squad or any of that. In fact, I'm pretty sure I missed half the DEP functions because I usually had to work. I was in DEP in college in some program they had (not sure if they still do) called College First. You had 1-2 years of college left, signed up in DEP and you go after college, you get college loan repayment. That's the only reason I joined. But I don't remember squads or any of that but a lot has changed. I thought they called it something else now - wasn't it called Warrior something program instead of delayed entry? Idk.

What makes you think you "deserve" to be a squad leader?

I guess I worded it wrong when I say "deserve". What I should have said would probably have been why I should be given the position of... or why I should have the privilege to lead the others. It's not only in the DEP that I want to be squad leader, or in my case also guideon. I want to lead Marines because I want to be the one that they can look up to for inspiration, motivation, and leadership.

How is your Squad Leaderless? Why do you feel that you deserve a shot at the Squad Leader slot? I applaud your enthusiasm, but as of right now, you do not have the experience to be put in charge of anything as big as a Squad and lead it effectively. To be an effective Leader, first you must be an effective Soldier. That comes with experience. But, you can volunteer to take on tasks that need to get done. Start small. Talk with your Platoon Leadership to see how you can take charge of things to show you can do what needs to be done.

What I mean by this is, I'm in the delayed entry program, and each recruiter has a "squad" in each squad there is a squad leader, like there would be in recruit training or if I were to be active duty. My squad's squad leader shipped to basic on monday of this week. My recruiter said that we were going to wait to appoint another squad leader until he had decided who he thought would be the best fit. When I do ship out, I want to be guide when I get to recruit training.

Pvt Keira Beck - When I was in basic, they had everyone filter through the leadership roles. And in AIT. Although we did have the same 'guide-on" which was basically like the PSG, for most of basic but she was f* squared away and she loved that shit. I think the DS made her step down at the end and let someone else do it.

If the recruiter is going to assign someone, they'll assign someone. Maybe it's you, maybe it's not.

Pvt Keira Beck - The Recruiter is going to do what they do. Their decision in the long run isn't even a footnote. Just focus on getting ready for Boot Camp. Titles mean nothing at this point of the game. You can count on one hand the amount of people who keep track of who was Guide in the DEP or Boot Camp.
