I am looking to see if I put in my packet to become a recruiter if I would be able to get the Baltimore area as my assignment. I currently live in Southern Maryland and would consider putting in a packet if I knew there was a high chance of me returning to the area to become a recruiter.

Question:

Please go to http://www.usarec.army.mil
And look for Recruit the Recruiter

Ask them all of the questions you have. More than likely if volunteer you are 99% of getting your first choice.

While I do not know what it is like today, back in the day, they would work very hard to get those who volunteered for USAREC the exact assignment they desired. Now, when you say assignment, are you talking the Brigade or Recruiting Station? The more specific you are, the more you are going to want to do your own leg work. The key to USAREC is selling. Start selling yourself on where you want to go. Talk to the BN CSM and let him/her know what you want and have them ask for you to come to their BN...same down to the Station.

I would love to be stationed at the local one that's a few miles from the house, but I am also open to travel/commute because I already commute 40 miles into DC as it is now for work. I am willing to do all the leg work required in order to get where I want in hopes to keep my family stabilized for another 3+ years. Thanks for your response MSG!

In truth, you are looking at positions in 1st Brigade and I really do not know that much about this region. You would probably want to see if you want to touch base with Beckley or Baltimore BNs?
One thing I would try, is going into the local RS and just check to see if they have anyone PCSing or if they have any short term openings in their company?

You will have a better chance getting station of choice if you voulnteer. But if you do volunteer and get accepted, be prepaird you may not get your choice. Your volunteering to becoming a recruiter, not the incentive.
