You should purchase a CAC card reader for MAC. Go to militarycac.com to find all other instructions. I currently have a Lenovo T-400 with 6 GB of ram, 250 GB SSD Hard drive with Windows 10. I use Microsoft Office 2007 as a choice.

I noticed you said you want to purchase a computer, well when buying one there must be a reason why you want to do away with the old one if there is an old one.
However I also noted that you are use to MAC's, which is a good reason to staying with a MAC computer.
Apple computers and laptops as said are good, because Apple does both, They built the machine and OS for that machine.
There warranty is pretty good, However take notes: On the apple certification we are told look for details such as scratch's on the surfaces, dents, damaged screws and go through like a fine tooth comb. Why? Because any and all of these void the warranty.

On the other hand if it were a lets say a Dell laptop, I as a tech would go to repair the item that is damaged and if I have a screw that was missing I would put it in place.
As a dell tech I would be concern with the actual computer or laptop. The OS would come from Microsoft or some other like Linux or have you.

But over all its what you want in a computer or laptop that will count.

If your planning to buy something new, then you will want to determine this:

Hard drive: The size, in Giga bytes. (more is better but also cost more) the type of Hard drive
IDE or SSD, IDE is cheaper and Solid State Drive are more expensive but supper fast.
* A little more on SSD later on.

RAM: How much memory in Giga Bytes, the more memory the more applications you can open with freezing. This amount of memory is determine by the type of computer you will have a 32 Bit can handle max 4 GB while a 64 Bit can handle above 4 GB.

Operating system, Windows 10 or Lion X, this is what you will work with.
Next is any additional software you will need to make you what you want happen.

So these are the things your looking for when your buying a new computer or laptop.
Speed is another, but in the market many or these items are pretty fast but take it into consideration when it comes to prices.

* SSD, Solid State Hard drives, I personally noted that many laptops equipped with SSD seem to have a limited life expectancy, because TRIM was not properly set up. Instead as an example in Windows ( ANY ) I noted that it was schedule to defrag. At no time should a SSD ever need to be defrag. When that is set to defrag, the life span goes down that it will end before its time. That was FYI. :)

I can built a computer from scratch and give it a name, so what I'm sayin is when you find a computer of your choice compare it with others before you pay for the name.

Good luck in your choice. Lenovo.

Most other brands can land on one or another of the lists, but Lenovo consistently lands on all of them (they all have their favorites and different judging criteria).

I bought a Lenovo Ultrabook with solid state drive and intel i7 core. The processor is more important than brand name, overall. Solid state drives are the most dependable, as most hard drives are literally disposable, solid state is made to last.
