Even better, as ridiculous as it will be, read out loud. You’ll notice the difference between written and spoken language. (Especially by professional writers).

I’m guessing MLC will be heavy on MFRs and briefings, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to pour through examples of poorly vs. well written MFRs. Briefing skills should also be aligned with written skills. More soldiers get removed from positions that require giving regular briefs because they can’t speak in a fluid, written (yet conversational, seemingly unscripted) manner.

Additionally, the economy of words is important. Don’t use twenty words when eight will get your point across clearly. Everyone’s time is important, and unnecessary words jumble the point and can have the tendency to make things a little less clear, or ambiguous, than they really need to be. (See what I mean? It was clear what I meant after the first sentence; second sentence was choppy, and it wasn’t necessary. Economy of words).

Best of luck.

https://thewritepractice.com/learn-to-write/

How to Learn to Write by Reading - The Write Practice

A writer SHOULD read, out of principle. It is 15 days of none stop classes with no day off. I do not recommend taking the DL course because it’ll be more confusing (info I got from my battle that did the DL). The writing portion is all APA style. The course prepares you for all the writing/papers you’ll have to do at the SGM Academy. If you provide me your email address I will send you all of my notes. Although it was a hard course, it is also rewarding because I learned a lot and I know I definitely earned my 1059 without a doubt. I hope this helps... I finished last month and spent and average of 3 hours a night studying and working on assignments. Everything in this course is writing and they follow the APA format. I would just say practice writing and have some one read it to see if it flows and makes since. Formatting and grammar is something you can brush up on. The course is all about time management and once I got a hang of how often an evaluation would happen I was fine. CSM Danny S. Although ask your facilitator for an example of how to vote army regulation because they dinged me hard for using the owl format. Major topics taught in MLC are the Joint Planning Process, mission command, and MDMP. You will have 2 group projects, 2 essays, 2 power point presentations, and 3 short answers exams. I am currently in week two of the course at the resident phase. Another thing you will do is called DEEP. Define, explain, elaborate present example is what that stands for.
