Sounds like you already made a great impression with the powers that be. I would imagine a position like that required quite a bit of scrutiny in the selection process. Personally, I'd be thrilled just to get the heck out of dodge and see Mother Rucker in the rear view. Let me know when you are done setting up shop. I've never been to the big house and would love to get a tour.

Listen. Learn. Get to know your people...your duties, incorporate your knowledge, teach, engage and get your team together...encourage and show humility and be thankful, but tough when you have to.

Congratulations Jim, wish I had some experience or advice to share, but frankly since becoming an aviator in 1993 I have not worked for or near that level. I had more general officer interaction as a PVT through Sergeant. However, my uncle taught me to be myself and normal around folks of rank staying that we all put our pants on one leg at a time. You obviously have what they wanted to be taking the position. You will do fine by being that honest broker for the boss and never holding back reality as you see it. That is about all I can send your way until I may get to that level and ask you for guidance. Enjoy the ride.
