You were previously a Fire Team Leader, so that will help. Be squared away yourself, so that you can set the example. Make sure that your men are taken care of and that they are well trained and mentored. You will make mistakes, so learn from them, and do not make the same mistake twice.

https://www.part-time-commander.com/sample-army-squad-leader-duties-responsibilities-and-job-description/

http://www.armystudyguide.com/content/army_board_study_guide_topics/nco_duties/duties-responsibilities-authority-of-nco.shtml

Sample Army Squad Leader Duties, Responsibilities and Job Description - Citizen Soldier Resource...

In today’s post, I want to educate you about theArmy Squad Leader duties, responsibilities and job description. See where it needs improvement and focus on that. Get to know your squad. There should still be that Sergeant - Soldier relationship but they should know that they can come to you with their problems or ideas. As for the admin and higher stuff, I have no input as of yet. Depending on how long you've been in the S-3, the only advice I would think to give is that you ensure you brush back up on your basic soldiering and be sure that you are still proficient in your job, as they'll expect you to still be on par with seasoned line leaders. Best of luck and congrats.
