I had a friend and fellow squad leader get a field grade article 15 and he was busted from SSG to SGT. Would he ever get E-6 again?

He got out after that but he was wondering how it would have affected his career if he stayed in.

Based on your comments, had he stayed in, yeah probably would have been fine up through retirement. Promotion potential would have remained about the same for your branch during and through the surges. About 2012-2014 he probably would have been guided to retirement if he had not done so himself already.

Depends on what his field grade was for...
- Drugs, probably not
-EEO/ Sharp , probably not
-Lost / Very damaged sensitive item, Probably yes
- Negligent discharge at a clearing barrel, Probably yes
- Profanity riddled melt down in the field with a senior NCO or junior officer, Probably yes
Not that the above examples relate to any real events or have great stories behind them.

He definitely could have. I received a FG Art 15 in 2011 in Afghanistan for disobeying my PL. Busted down from SGT to SPC. Made SGT back in 14 months and then 11 months after pinning SGT, I pinned SSG. Don't get me wrong, it sucked. I spent a lot of time proving myself to my new PL and PSG, and the company command. It can be done though.

Maybe, but real iffy, and never count on making it out of the SFC board.
