I have a B.A. and am in the MSARNG (contract end in Nov). Can I go Active Duty OCS if I was medically discharged from ROTC for PTSD?

Okay, due to the wording of the question, I would like to clarify that I have PTSD from a sexually traumatic experience while I was in AIT. I did not get PTSD from ROTC. I was discharged from ROTC because my PRE-EXISTING PTSD was causing problems in my daily life. I sought counseling, informed my leadership, and within the year was released back to my national guard unit.

Gather all of your medical records detailing the diagnosis, treatment, & follow ups. Obtain a clearance letter from the doctor stating that you are cleared for military service and can function normally in an austere environment. if your situation meets the requirements of AR40-501 as well as the medical DODI, (I have not checked) then maybe you can get a Med waiver. Once you are out of the Guard, go to your local Army recruiter or Career Counselor (79V) and request that they send up your records to the CMO at MEPS along with your DD2807-2 and 680 form. That's the only way to really know. Good luck.

Excellent advice, although I wouldn't wait until you are out of the guard. It's easier to get in when you are already in. Do you really want to go through MEPS all over again? There are plenty of ANG priors that transition to AD without the need for a MEPS visit.

SSgt (Join to see) - I will certainly try, unfortunately, logistics might be difficult because I am working overseas as a civilian. Difficult, but not impossible. I will definitely see if I can expedite the process from over year before the fall.

What does your DA form 705 say. I was discharged from ROTC and it said that I could seek another commissioning source if medical condition is corrected.

It doesn't appear to say anything like that sir. Just: 'Disenrollment is based on a medical condition, history of post-traumatic stress disorder, which precludes appointment as a commissioned officer."

Well that's a little bit different than mine. Mine had two boxes at the bottom of the form. I was able to prove that the medical condition had been corrected, but I think the big key was that I went active duty after being disenrolled for medical and that was enough to bypass any further medical reviews.

How does your hx of PTSD affect your ability to secure a TS clearance (since you mentioned you were interested in Military Intelligence)? Everything is waiverable (mostly). I can't speak for Army, but for the USAF a medical professional will review your records and determine if you are fit to become an officer.

I currently still have a Secret Clearance, but to be honest I am not sure. I do know officers who still have theirs while being treated for PTSD though so I can't imagine it would be too much of an issue. Especially since I'm not on any kind of medication.
