That was always my understanding of what the Option 40 got you. They'll weed out folks who physically wont/cant make it, and those that are still around will be called up to RASP as positions open up. I believe its strictly a basic training follow on station because they want to make sure new recruits can handle the rigors as Active Duty soldiers have to qualify for the positions. If that's where you're going Id recommend picking up the ranger hand book in basic (if they allow it) and memorizing the Ranger Creed as well as reading it cover to cover multiple times and focus on maxing your PT test and getting good at ruck marches. Expect to spend eight hours a day sitting on pea gravel rocks, for weeks. People quit because of this. Sometimes you won't be released for the day until someone can find a particularly shaped rock. You'll have to rake the rocks flat a couple times a day. Sometimes you may be required to spend the entire time studying, sometimes they may let this slide. There may be PT tests or psych evaluations or some useful training or cool details like playing OPFOR or less cool details like building running trails. They may do height and weight if someone looks fat (they'll do everyone, but you'll know who the reason is). You will learn the Ranger Creed. You will amuse yourself by learning the true way to count rocks. You will also count elephants. You will learn about Black Magic and the Green Glass Door. Overall, it's not too bad if you can find ways to stay sane and awake while sitting on rocks for weeks... SPC Elijah J. Pre-RASP is just that, we used to run one at XVIII ABC, cause the CG got tired of sending folks down there who boloed in the 1st couple of weeks. It is suppose to give you a taste of hell that the course is.PT and PT tests, skill valuations, training ,etc. . It is to keep us from wasting money on unprepared wannabe's tying up valuable school slots SGM Bill Frazer Wed, 15 Nov 2017 10:23:55 -0500 2017-11-15T10:23:55-05:00 2017-11-14T12:40:09-05:00
