This is so bad. What is the saddest part of this they just fired the weapon so they must have just got a class on that weapon system. It goes to say the quality of training in Basic Training might be diminishing.

Not only is it backwards it is up side down also. So much fail in one place.

I just remembered a war story from my basic training...there was a soldier on our ammo/magazine loading detail that found 2 rounds of 556 that the projectiles were loose on and thought it would be a good idea to take the powder from one and add it to the other. The guy who ended up with that magazine on the firing line was lucky he was not a left-handed shooter. When that round was fired it blew the receiver assembly out to the ejection port side in several pieces and caused two more rounds inside the magazine to fire as well. It was quite fortunate that nobody was hurt. If the shooter had been left-handed part of his face would have probably gone flying away with the pieces of the receiver group.

I'm pretty confident it was a joke... My only questions are, given the red blotch as a patch, is this basic training? If so, when the hell did they let Privates start carrying phones in Basic? I went to Parris Island, so I'm genuinely clueless as to whether or not that's a thing. I heard that the Army did that, but I assumed it was a jab/joke...

I like the set shot humor. Sometimes things are not humorous. We had an O-4 in a Regimental command we dubbed "Rambo". He wanted to be soooo military. Problem was he was a few floats short of a parade. After dropping the 81mm round down the tube pointy end first twice, he was banished from that. After pulling the pin on a practice grenade and freaking out with a long toss into a training pit with Seabees using the real thing, his career ceased. Nothing like hearing a fuse hiss in the dark behind you. A lot of Hershey Squirt cleanup. Not fun.

Certainly an IET soldier as the left shoulder has no patch. Boot in the corner is not an issue boot, so it's an instructor or DS standing over. I didn't go to Basic all that long ago, the way the crew serve range was run for me, each trainee stood behind the firing line with a belt of ammo in his hands. A DS would give the signal and all the privates on line would walk up to the weapon, load it and start firing. Use up the ammo, clear the weapon, DS clears it, and you move to the back of the firing point, to be replaced by the next soldier. I doubt the whole process took more than 3 minutes. I never even looked through the sights of the weapon. While getting into a proper firing position a DS started yelling at me to quit wasting time. So I just burned up my rounds in a few bursts, and never hit a thing. Most all the guys in my platoon did the same. I'm figuring this private got nervous, slammed the belt in, and by the time she realized she'd done something wrong, a DS was screaming at her, "DO NOT MOVE, DON'T TOUCH A THING!!" So, instead of a quick glance around hoping nobody saw, which is what would happen at a normal range, she's stuck being the star of the internet.

This image inspired something for me. It has been around the internet with the premise of spot the mistake. I considered, what if it is not a mistake, but a statement? For every bullet you shoot, you create bullets that are pointed at you. Shoot someone (even if they need to be and or deserve it) that person has family and friends, or someone was unsettled, and unhinged by the bomb that dropped in their neighborhood... War just makes more war! Destroy your enemies by making friends out of them.
