The above link will direct you to a website that offers a land navigation program that you can purchase for 50 dollars I believe. I bought the program and I can tell you it’s worth it. It teaches you all of the basics and then some. I would purchase it if I were you since there aren’t any other programs as good or like this one. I’m not gonna say I hope this will help, coz I know it will! Good luck.

Get a map & compass and get to walking. Practice your resection & intersection.

This might seem like a small comment but this is spot on.

Get used to navigating with a declination change and find out the grid to magnetic for where you'll be doing land nav.

Go out and practice it. Get your pace count again. About how much time is it also.

TC 3-25.26 is the Army reference. You can also Google orienteering, its land naving for time, they have some great tips you can use.
