I joined the Army when I was a "hippie". How did your age group view the military when you joined?

97' Had a lot going on at that time. Bosnia, Kosovo, second crisis in Iraq. Had a lot to think about. Being part of the "Clinton" days I was in it for the college money. Other than the things listed above.. Joining pre 911 it was much different then. I carried a lot of pride in my uniform.

My age group thought that the military was a bunch of animals and that it was more patriotic to skip out of the country than to join the military.

SGT Jerrold Pesz, My brothers were ready to leave the U.S.- and I think go to Canada.
To this day, I was the only child to join the military; and it took a long time for them to say they were proud of me, thank me, etc.

I joined in 71, I guess we were the end of the Hippy era. While many of my friends went to college to protest the Nam war I enlisted... I lost a lot of friends..... I found me.....
