Can you effectively lead soldiers in an MOS you just learned?

My answer to you would be no and you would benefit from working the job first, then trying to be an NCO in the field, SSG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 03 Dec 2021 20:04:06 -0500 2021-12-03T20:04:06-05:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 3 at 2021 8:04 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/i-just-came-back-from-reclass-school-2-weeks-ago-and-was-wondering-how-to-see-if-my-mos-changed-or-not-and-or-how-long-does-it-take?n=7403378&urlhash=7403378

SSG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 03 Dec 2021 20:04:36 -0500 2021-12-03T20:04:36-05:00 Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 3 at 2021 9:14 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/i-just-came-back-from-reclass-school-2-weeks-ago-and-was-wondering-how-to-see-if-my-mos-changed-or-not-and-or-how-long-does-it-take?n=7403449&urlhash=7403449

So, you went to AIT to Reclass? How long ago did you graduate? Did you EVER receive orders stating what your new MOS is? Did you get a 1059? What documents did you get from your AIT? And, lastly, did you provide copies to your S1 to get iPermed?

How long before you can see if it has changed? One way is to go into your HRC USARC profile and look at your personnel data. Another way is to ask your Unit Administrator. As for how long this normally takes......if it takes more than a month then someone fell asleep at the keyboard.

As for Promotion packet.....you can send one now but here is the problem....if you don't have current MOS orders for your packet, then you would be considered for promotion in your old MOS. And chances are that dog ain't gonna hunt. If you want a promotion packet to be considered under your new MOS, then you need to have your MOS orders in there. I'm USAR as well.

When I commissioned from SGT 35F then I of course set out to be a QM 2LT.

I went to BOLC in Ft Lee and graduated without any drama and just another run of the mill QM LT.

Well, it wasn't until I was in command of my own QM Company that I discovered I showed up on the readiness metrics as RED for deployment. I couldn't deploy, as the Company CO because I was not branch qualified.

WTF?????

What eventually happened is I pushed my inquiry up through my BN S1. It took a year to figure out, and not long before my command ended I finally started showing up in the UMR as "92A" and no longer "--"

This took action and memos of Field Grades and GS15's to sort out and just push through the needed key strokes in HRC to code me as branch qualified.

So just in the nick of time I secured showing up in HRC as branch qualified as the CPT board opened. Eventually I was selected as CPT (no drama, straight forward) and notice my peers from BOLC where showing up on the CPT list as NON BRANCH QUALFIIED, because they hadn't stumbled upon what I figured out for myself. So I let them know what was up, but then they were behind the ball in terms of the time it takes to jump through the admin hoops to convince the USAR that we all graduated BOLC.

Well............. now I have recently completed my CPT Career Course and should move into Logistics, and my Branch will change from 92A to 90A.

Painfully, changing from the QM branch to the LG branch from a system perspective is like changing branches from other random branch to another. I may as well be jumping back and forth from Signals or Pys Ops.

I submitted my LG branch request the month after I graduated CCC, but just last week I was told the entire packet was kicked back, and then given a new check list I have to follow and resubmit it. This includes submitting a 4187, 4037, PQR (2-A) and my PULHES. I'm being told, after all that, it would be sent to Ft Lee for final approval, Really????????????? Didn't I just jump through all the hoops to attend CCC administered by Ft Lee. Why didn't they cover down on that 6 months ago? I mean I had to prove to them I was QM qualified, not flagged, and did all the pre req on-line CCC courses as well just to attend LG CCC.

JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm only going from QM to LG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the exact path I am supposed to go. It would LITERALLY (so I think) be easier for me to re-branch back into my enlisted MOS of MI. It certainly wouldn't be any harder.

If anyone thinks this is specific to my chain of command, this has happened under two different chains of command under two different 2-star levels. I thinking it's a USAR thing or an LG branch thing.

**************
Anyway.............. I'm starting to think it doesn't matter. Does anyone actually "care" I am not in the system as a 90A? No one has ever chased me down telling me I'm not branch qualified. No one has ever told me I can't fill a specific billet because I'm not branch qualified.

I get the impression I'm a rare breed in terms of keeping on top of my status in the system because so many of my peers are in the same situation as myself and don't do anything about it, and yet they advance in their careers like anyone else.

I suspect it's the reason we all submit everything from scratch in our promotion packets anyway, and we promote and advance without interference of system generated report that no one bothers validating.

***********

So what I'm saying to the soldier who asked the question. Good luck, your situation will be specific to your branch, and your chain of command.

I am absolutely certain if you are not on the UMR as branch qualified it will not happen automatically and you have to figure out and just keep pushing until it is.

I am motivated to get mine fixed because I convince myself it will put me ahead of my peers in regard to any broad stroke action taken in favor of my cohort year of LG officers.

***********
Finally............ I wonder, if the USAR has more QM/TN/OD/LG officers than it thinks it has. I'm certain there are a lot of us who finished BOLC and CCC who don't know we are not in the system as branch qualified, and many of those who do know are expecting it to be updated automatically upon graduation of BOLC and CCC. I did at first. CPT Private RallyPoint Member Sun, 05 Dec 2021 16:46:18 -0500 2021-12-05T16:46:18-05:00 2021-12-03T18:47:48-05:00
