And yes they have MPs on the base. It&#39;s a large base with a ton of vehicle activity. A lot of transient military, DoD civilians and contractors go thru Arifjan. I can think of worse assignments, but then again we can all think of better ones! The DFACs are adequate and the gym is large and not run down. They even have an outdoor swimming pool there. It reminded me of a CONUS Air Force Base. If I remember right they even have a turf soccer field there. You should have a relatively easy deployment. As others have said, I would imagine you'll have a force protection or security role of some sort. You may also end up being involved in the port near there. Other than that, I seem to remember MP's doing the same things they would do in any garrison back stateside. The gates are guarded by contractors and the MP's patrolled the streets. Take all this with a grain of salt (other than the HOT part) as I was there in 2006-07 and I wasn't an MP. M1's swapping engines, then one by one they would line up to be inspected.
