I just PCS’d from Korea, which was my first duty station. How do I go about inprocessing at my new unit?

I’m on leave right now and my orders aren’t pinpoint. I probably seem like a noob right now, but I’m legitimately lost in the sauce. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Also my next unit is Fort Carson, so if anyone has any advice about the post or 4ID I’d like to know what to expect too)

When you drive, be careful. My car once was frozen to the road’s pavement.

In Winter afternoons, roadway slush will freeze about 4 PM. My car was frozen to the pavement!

You will report to the reception center no later than your report date, and up to 30 days prior with your leave form in hand. They will give you all additional directions from there.

Carson is a great place. I was there for four years. Get a cheap Wrangler and go play in the mountains on the weekends!

So there's a central office on a big base like Carson that is the inprocessing start point for all arrivals. That location (where you "report") should be on your orders, but if not - stop at the gate, go to the Visitor's Center if need be, and ask. Recommend you arrive NLT the day BEFORE your orders state, find that office and when they open, get oriented, and then report on the appointed date, the next morning. Good Luck!!

PFC Foster, SFC Boyd hit it on the head! When you get to Fort Carson you will sign into the reception battalion. Your orders should have an address and reporting instructions. If not Google is a powerful tool! If you are flying into Colorado Springs, at the airport there is a fort Carson rep there at baggage claim that will help get you to the base. If you are driving you will need to go to gate #1, again use Google to get you there, the guys at gate #1 will be able to direct you to the reception building. As for Fort Carson, it's a nice base I have been here for 5 years. Once you report to the reception battalion you will in process, it will take about 5 days, at that point your gaining unit will pick you up and take you to your new unit. Colorado Springs is a nice city and there are lots of things to do and see. My advice to you is to make sure you acclimatise to the elevation before you go for a hike of do any major cardio. We are between 6 and 8k feet above sea level and it can be hard to breathe here. Good luck and if you need any help there are plenty of resources on Fort Carson as well as on here.

Carson is great. I have been here for almost 4 years now. Beautiful area, all kinds of weather, units are...eh. If you have any questions feel free to ask or shoot a message. If you are married, GREAT location to buy a home.

I don't like the term noob but you are still new to the Army and helping you out with a question like this is what we are here for. I found Korea to be the coldest place I have ever been and Colorado should be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Beautiful place.

Everybody here is giving you good advice. The only thing I can add is that the Army is very good at telling you what to do. Just show up. They'll take it from there. Relax. You'll be in good hands.

The replacement center aka In-Processing is on Nelson Blvd once you get there, I know I had trouble finding it when I first got to carson, hope this helps

I saw the one post mentions acclimating to the altitude. That is good advice. You will get winded just walking up a flight of stairs. When I was there many, many years ago. That knocked me on my butt.

You will receive a week long briefings and then your unit rep will pick you up and will you the units patch. And then you do inprocessing with unit at battalion level
