I just read this article "Commitment Issues," by Ethan Rocke. Is the "War-Light" theory why America continues to fight terrorism?

SSgt (Join to see) great interpersonal article from an official whom has been there and done that. The question I ask myself is when is the next 9/11 and are we prepared? Only time will tell. GWOT is currently on the rise in my opinion.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL I agree. I believe The enemy is emboldened, recruiting and growing. They are not afraid, they follow only their own rules/laws and collateral damages make better headlines. And make no mistake, they are arriving in droves inside of America. Our society softens while they harden with resolve. It will, one day, become the war that they want, one for total domination.
But, I digress...

We are a one trick pony. We smash up a country with a large army, rebuild it, train the military, prop up a democratic government and revel in our victory. However, we generally refuse to go to Insurgent occupied lands to kill them. This means insurgents have a safe haven to conduct operations from. Space is their friend to deploy an redeploy. Mao Tse Tung said a crucial step for winning revolutions is to turn a relatively small conclave of revolutionaries into a peer military. He wrote the growth can be caused by positive inducement or by the sword. I am done pontificating.

Honestly you can never prepare for terrorism. we can always train to prepare to fight, but terrorism is another conflict that goes years and years of observation and preparation. That's why when they attack we have not a clue, like a thief in the night!

I agree. The war on terrorism is not the typical historical war. In 1992, General Powell said, “The reason for our success is that in every instance we have carefully matched the use of military force to our political objectives. We owe it to the men and women who go in harm’s way to make sure that this is always the case and that their lives are not squandered for unclear purposes.” It would be interesting to see the effects if the 400,000 troops had been deployed versus the 150,000. Thank you.
