I went from the Marine Corps to the National Guard. Nothing against the Army but it was a nightmare for me. Could have just been my unit, but everything slowed way down from what I was use to. It was still fun at times, just seemed like things were not planned out to well.

I went from active-duty Air Force (1997-2002) to Air National Guard (2006-2009) to Army Reserve (2009-present). I must admit, I got a few weird looks from the MEPS personnel when they realized I was leaving an Air Force component for an Army one. I switched to pursue a commission, which I had competed for multiple times while in the Air National Guard, but had come up short. Personally, I really like the Army Reserve...there are a few differences but ultimately, it is the people you are around that make for good (or bad) experiences.

my contract is almost up with the USAR after nearly 12 yrs..... the first six years was fun and get the job like we were active duty but the last 6 yrs it has gone down hill....between the BS that the higher up come up with too the NCOs cant get along to personal reasons.... at this point i honestly can't say if i would do this again if i had the chance again..... maybe 6 yrs ago i would have said it.... i

I just left the Air Guard after 17 years and went to the Reserves....it is a change for sure, even Air Force to Air Force

My experience in the transfer was smooth and the receiving unit had plenty to keep me busy and most everyone got along fine . Not that much different then any other branch as former Army,Army Reserve, Army Guard,Air Force Guard in all the Air Guard seemed to be always begging the Army for funding of course that was the A-Team and we were fast. The real down side of Guard life is you can put in 20 years and not get a retirement like they did to me. Every time you volunteer for active duty you are then off the Guard payroll and off the book for retirement pay as well. After 21 years I was to old to continue with 17 good years at 59 years old. Have fun Keep you head down and like DAD said don't volunteer!
