"I would have joined the military but I decided I wanted to work for my benefits."
"Cool, while you're at it could I get a medium fry and drink with that burger."
I have all of the respect in the world for civilians, as long as they show some respect back. It isn't even about being military or not it's about just not being an asshole.

Hey you should try looking at it from their point of view. I have tried, but I am not that flexible.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - I too, wish I were more flexible. Australian Dream Cream seems to abate the pain in my hands. My being a 1933 model, those aches and pains continue to increase. I cannot imagine getting into a 'front leaning rest position' in one count!

SSG Michael Hathaway - I was just thinking about that, and there were some times when it definitely didn't feel like we were working. Underway replenishment, Line Handling, 3am Sounding and Security Watch, 12 on 12 off underway watch schedules were not those times. That was just doing work ups during peace time. That doesn't account for boot on the ground soldiers/marines under fire or deployed vessels or forward deployed airmen. Except in certain neighborhoods, the fry mongers do not have to worry about enemy fire, IEDs, pirates, and the local sentiment on America. Never mind coming home to a VA system that is dysfunctional at best. Of course this is all "preaching to the choir" since everyone here knows what it takes.

I heard a Jewish saying once on that subject:
"Educating some people is like piling books on an ass".

I work for and Internet Service Provider (ISP) as a Senior Network Engineer that was bought out by another company. My new boss? was a retired Navy nuclear submarine chief machinist mate. All he could ever tell was how technical the job was that he had in the Navy and that what I did for the company did not even come close to being as hard. Just a side note I qualified for Navy nuke school way above the needed score on the ASVAB. I was also very successful in my career design world wide networks for telecom companies and international corp.. There were maybe 10 people in the world who did what I did at the level I did it( sorry for all of the dids). Big problem was he was propbably book smart but had no clue how to design, install and maintain any type of network because he was too busy telling me smart he was and how stupid I was. Just another case of book smart life dumb.

Some folks don't have the understanding and humility to realize they are not the fountain of knowledge.
