I'm a 68W interested in PCS'ing to Fort Huachuca. What would the daily life be for a medic in Fort Huachuca?

I'm a line medic in 3rd Brigade combat team. All I really know in the army is the life of an infantry guy basically. What's it like for medics in Fort Huachuca?

You’re going to a TRADOC base. Take this time to really learn your job and look into seeing if you can go back school

Put it this way, you’re going from “no one leaves until we’re done, to, everything stops at 1700

Former Senior Clinical NCOIC at Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center 2005-2007, not back in the area as an ER provider at the new civilian hospital. I am well connected with the MEDDAC, what are your questions?

Hey Sergeant, I'm trying to PCS from Fort Campbell. Is there anyone I could contact to try to squeeze me into there? My window opens up to PCS in the February-March timeframe. Arizona is home for me and I'd love working in a clinic as opposed to working on the line as an infantry medic again. Thanks for your time Sergeant.

From the responses I've gotten it seems I'd be slotted into a clinic, that's the dream compared to here. Does Huachuca deploy at all?

Soldiers assigned to the MEDDAC Work in one of the several clinics on post. None are assigned to the MI or Network command units. When called, medics are typically tasked to a deploying unit as a support element. Medics typically serve 2 years before PCS'ing. Lots of opportunity for college and outdoor recreation. One hour drive to Tucson so not too far from a big city if that is your thing.

Okay thank you Sergeant. I definitely want to get the schooling aspect done while still in. And my hometown is Tucson. Thanks again.

you'll be going from meatball surgery to putting band aids on AIT sudent's paper cuts and other little boo boos, most likely. You'll have ample time to go to school, if that is your gig, or just chill. If I'm not mistaken, you're at Ft Benning right now. Here, you'll be living life on a much smaller post, by a much smaller town. It's not bad though; if you're into hiking or other outdoorsy stuff, you'll have it made.

That's awesome haha. Way better than having to help treat infantry dudes for STD's and poison ivy on their nuts. Thanks Sergeant
